The 2018 World Cups will be held in Russia and Germany and will be contested by two of the world’s two oldest nations: Russia and the former Soviet republic of Kazakhstan.
Russia will host the tournament in Russia’s Far East, while Germany will host in a third city of the same name, and in 2018 will host at the start of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, in the city of Dortmund.
Russia is the only country in the world that has not hosted a World Cup since the 1994 tournament, which was held in Nagano, Japan.
Germany and Japan will host matches in 2020, 2022 and 2024.

The Russian government is also pushing for the 2020 World Cup to be moved to Kazan, a city that was previously the site of the 1994 World Cup.
Kazakhstan was the host of the previous World Cup for the first time in 2019, when it hosted the event in Moscow, while Azerbaijan hosted in 1994.
Russia hosted the 2002 World Cup after a bid that was backed by the United States, which would host the event for the second straight time in 2018.
The tournament ended up going to Brazil, where Russia defeated Colombia 2-0 in the finals.
